Not nearly as sexual as their name implies The Bird and The Bee are an Indie duo from Los Angeles. The Bird is Inara George; dubbed the bird because she is the lead vocalist, while the Bee is musician Greg Kurstin. Inara serves as the bands lead singer and song-writer and also plays guitar while Greg is the a keyboardist and producer.
The duo haven't been together for very long. They met sometime around 2004 and found a shared passion for jazz, started to play some songs together, and then knocked out their self-titled debut album "the bird and the bee"
The pair have released three albums so far including "Please clap Your Hands" and the romantic EP "One Too Many Hearts" that came out on Valentines day of 2008. Inara has an airy voice and their songs are generally soft and sugary and, as they describe it:
...sunshine-drenched, semi-psychedelic ditties...
Perhaps they are being a little self-indulgent in calling them "semi-psychedelic" but they are certainly sunshine drenched.
With song titles such as "Polite Dance Song" (you should watch this video; its disturbingly funny) which has a sort of happy plodding feel to it that I can't seem to help but like to the tooth-achingly sweet "Tonight You Belong To Me" you definitely know you aren't getting any angst when you turn on one of their tracks but, instead, a whole heaping teaspoon of sugar to help the medicine of life go down.
You can check them out on both Facebook and MySpace. Plus you can see a few of their videos at YouTube. Their videos, such as Again and Again are about a unusual and kitchy as their music - this particular video steals bits from 1960's movies and the famous Beetles Abby Road crossing. I don't like this group as much as I did my last featured band, Bat for Lashes, but, overall, their music is still entertaining and oddly enjoyable.
